On the westside of Hollands Spoor station two 70m high apartment towers are built by LIAG in cooperation with K2 Architects.

Tower 1 contains 270 individual student residences. Tower 2 has 332 with shared facilities for every four students. The layout is planned to be adjustable for a change to 156 startup homes.

The dominating problem of outside noise levels on this location have been embraced by using counter measures as special building elements like double corridors in tower 1, loggias in tower 2 and gridelements on the facade.

Because both towers have different solutions for noise reduction and are adapted to the differing neighboring housing types the towers are not entirely equal. By vertically accentuating the facades and giving elements different distances to eachother a very distinctive facade is created with a lesser priority to distinction of floors compared to the strong image of the towers themselves.

The public space forms the transition between the railway embankment and the Waldorpstraat street. Both towers are accessible from two levels: the car park and Waldorpstraat street. The vertical facade elements are imiged in the public area surrounding the towers, visible in the pavement, sitting elements and vegetation.

The towers are part of the development Laakhaven Centraal, which is also providing i.a. a ROC school and several Megastores.
