It's that time again! Indoor entertaining, cocktail parties, dinner parties, cosying up in front of the fireplace with a great book – and the list goes on. Can you tell we're excited for fall and winter to be upon us?  We certainly hope you are! Leave the summertime sadness behind and instead, focus on the fun projects of preparing your home for the colder, winter months.

Prep your fireplace, create a reading nook and get out your crockery and table settings for long dinner parties in the comfort and cosiness of your own home. We have several ways for you to properly prepare your home with some fall and winter interior design trends. Most of these trends will only require items you already have, and maybe some slight rearranging. So start drying out the herbs, grab the thick blankets and light some candles – it's the best time of all!

1. Shades of blue with metallics

Nothing screams winter and holidays more than blues, reds and metallics. Prepare an art deco-inspired living room to keep up with holiday trends. Add a 1930s style bar cart for late-night gatherings and long nights of reading alone.

2. All-white cosiness

Bring out the heavier bedding, high-pile rugs and thick blankets for fall and winter. As the sun will be gradually disappearing, use shades of white to bring some light into your living spaces.

3. Take indoor gardening to a whole new level

Vertical gardening has been a trend since early last year. However, we hope you will skip the vertical gardening that looks too done and organised. Opt for a more messy look for fall and winter seasons!

4. Go bold!

Make your living room a place where you can escape. Escapism is a new trend among home designers – using architecture to provide a place of refuge for homeowners. It can be anything from a reading nook, to a beautiful window-view!

5. Design for entertaining

As the weather will become cooler, your nights in will become longer. Prepare your dining room for dinner parties by grabbing matching crockery and napkins – and don't forget to add some fresh sprigs of pine or mint to top it off!

6. Raw and rustic

Use raw timber for exposed shelving, headboards and even bed frames to give your bedroom a wild frontier look. Add faux-fur pillows for a touch of cosiness.

7. Try new patterns and textures

For fall and winter keep patterns bold and darker. Make sure that when choosing busy patterns and textures that you pull corresponding colours (solids are best) for the matching cushions or pillows.

8. Prepare a worthy work space

If you're lucky enough to work from home, then your office space is more than simply an office - it's where you look for creative inspiration and a place to keep a clear, efficient head. Scandinavian-style office spaces can do just that!

9. Always include a fireplace
